We We are glad to announce that the theatre group Atelier El Masrah from Cairo is going to join the Summer Sessions. The 10 young artists will present a theatre piece that deals with the topics democracy, freedom and happiness.
In 2012, they were resident artists at temporary home in Kassel where we could enjoy their work for the first time. This year, Moviemiento and Atelier El Masrah are running the project CultureSITES together. In March/April, 10 Moviemiento members visited Cairo for 10 days and participated in rehearsals of the group in which we reflected about democracy, freedom and happiness from our different cultural perspectives. On these reflexions the presented theatre piece will be based. Furthermore we met in Cairo many interesting NGOs and street artists that deal with artistic intervention in public space.
The whole Atelier El Masrah consists of 30 young artists from the Faculty of Fine Arts (Helwan University Cairo). They are directed by Shady El Dali and are one of the most successful independent theatre groups in Egypt, winning a lot of awards in the past years.
